Raleigh’s HGTV 2016 Smart Home Winner Announced!
Out of nearly 83 million entries, the name of a Maryland mother of five has been drawn as the winner of HGTV’s Smart Home 2016 sweepstakes, a prize featuring a newly-built home valued at more than $1 Million in a west Raleigh neighborhood.
Theresa Smith of Glenwood, Maryland, got the news last week when the HGTV production crew showed up at a birthday party for her sister and surprised her with the news, according to a news release from the Knoxville, Tennessee-based company.
The number of entries received for the contest featuring the Raleigh home was more than double the 40 million entries for the 2015 contest featuring a home in Austin, Texas. Visitors to the HGTV website were allowed to enter twice daily between April 12 and June 2.
The grand prize package is valued at more than $1.2 million, and includes the four-bedroom house in the Haywood neighborhood built by Raleigh-based Homes by Dickerson, plus all its furnishings, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC and $100,000 provided by national mortgage lender Quicken Loans.
According to HGTV, Smith told them that she toured every space in the house online during the sweepstakes and picked her favorites: the master bedroom and master bath, the kitchen and the screened-in porch.
Smith and her family will tour the home in-person along with the home’s interior designer,Tiffany Brooks, later in July.
