Holly Springs has come a long way! It began as a crossroads between Raleigh and the Cape Fear River because of its location near fresh water springs and an abundance of holly trees. Travelers would stop to quench their thirst near the intersection of what is now Avent Ferry Road and Cass Holt Road; hence, the name Holly Springs. Holly Springs was more of a squatting town until Archibald Leslie arrived in the community around 1817 and intended to stay put. He began construction of a 38-room house near the springs, now known as the Leslie-Alford-Mims House, located off Avent Ferry Road near the Town Hall. This home is now a popular wedding venue.  You can tour it at: http://www.mimshousenc.com/
